What Happened to Windows Phone?

· TECH

There is no second opinion about the fact that computers are an inevitable part of mortals’ life, and this has been the case for quite a long time. Those who know about computers aptly know of the significance of the Windows Operating System. There would be hardly anyone who does not agree about the prominence of this operating system.

But the question intrigues many that why the operating system that prevails around the globe could not get success in smartphones. This is not news that over 90% of the personal computers still use Windows Operating systems; however, the company failed drastically in the domain of smartphones.

Without any doubt, smartphones are not a luxury anymore. It has become a necessary part of everyone’s life. From dawn to dusk, most of the jobs are accomplished with the help of several gadgets, and it has an imperative role to play in today’s era. People use various smartphones that run on a couple of different operating systems. IOS and Android are the majorly used operating systems, to name a few.

Despite many efforts, Windows has never been able to sustain itself in this very domain. While delving deeper, many triggers come to light why this has been the case.

Foremost, it is vital to know that before more than a decade ago, around 2007; Windows had been one of the most used operating systems followed by Blackberry and others. The only difference was that these smartphones used to have a qwerty keypad with a stylus. They deemed laptops with the same Windows operating system. But, as time rolled by, the scenario changed out and out.

Apple launched its very first phone in 2007, and this became the foundation of modern smartphones. The phone had some lags but still; it made a huge success because of its outstanding appearance and aspects. This also paved the path for Android. Unquestionably, this was like a present to people as it offered a striking screen and an easy-to-use interface. All these reasons let the phone sell like hotcakes.

Google, too, made the most of it by launching Android with HTC. Being a free source, a plethora of companies used it and released smartphones that were liked by the masses like anything. Now, both Apple and Android were doing a brisk business and Windows lost its relevance and could not jump the bandwagon again. Since Android phones were not costly, the sales skyrocketed amazingly. Phones with Windows were not as catchy as Apple and Android ones were.

The other remarkable trigger was the many applications of these operating systems. As the sales were on the rise, a lion’s share of developers was making applications for both Apple and Android, and Windows again lagged in this case, too. For obvious reasons that people expected varying applications to serve their rising needs.

All these reasons, among others, made Windows go obsolete and finally the Windows phone disappeared completely from the market.
